Our Philosophy is Simple

Eco Zen Boutique was grown from a simple idea that you don’t have to sacrifice style to be a conscious consumer.  We also believe that you don’t have to be extreme to make a difference; it takes each of us doing a little bit more to make a big change collectively.

Organic - any of our clothing made of new materials is pre-screened to ensure no pesticides or synthetic chemicals were used in the making of the products.  Also, our entire cosmetic line has certified organic ingredients, is paraben free, gluten free and contains no bismuth oxyclorides.

Recycled - some of our products are made of recycled content. Our gift wrap is made of recycled paper and printed with soy based inks.

Reclaimed - while recycling is great, reclaimed is better because less energy is used in creating products of reclaimed or repurposed materials.  Example, our reclaimed inner tube hand bags are made by simply cutting and sewing rather than by processing the rubber in a factory to become like-new rubber.

Vegan - vegan made means no animals were harmed in the making of the products.  Our organic cosmetics have never been tested on animals and contain no animal products.  We also do not carry any products made of leather or fur.

Fair Trade - we choose not to carry products in our green boutique unless we can be sure that they were not made with sweat-shop labor and the workers or artisans were paid a fair wage for their work.

Through our alliance with 1% For The Planet, we contribute 1% of company sales to environmental organizations.

Eco Zen Boutique is Carbon Neutral

Eco Zen Boutique is committed to becoming carbon neutral through a partnership with Carbonfund.org.  We are a small business with lofty goals of making a difference in the world by making green choices a part of our standard operating procedure from day one.  We live by Carbonfund.org’s motto, “reduce what you can, offset what you can’t.” 

Carbonfund.org supports three types of carbon offset projects: renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation. Each type plays an important role in the fight against climate change.  The projects Carbonfund.org supports meet the same high standards that thousands of companies, organizations, and governments rely on to ensure quality environmental protection. 

• Renewable Energy – supports clean energy development, such as wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass.
• Energy Efficiency – reduces existing energy use, much of which comes from coal, oil, and natural gas.
• Reforestation – absorbs existing CO2 emissions, which helps to reduce the excess greenhouse gases that humans have added to the atmosphere.

Eco Zen Boutique Uses Minimal Packaging

You will notice that the products you order are shipped in minimal packaging. We do not use exterior product boxes because we believe the extra packaging is unnecessary to protect the product and will just add meaningless waste to your local landfill. The box or package your purchase is shipped in is also made of up to 100% recycled materials.

If you order Priority Mail shipping your order is shipped to you in a certified 'Cradle to Cradle' box.  This means that the United States Postal Service's boxes have reached a high standard when assessed according to various criteria for human and environmental health, including toxicity, renewable energy, water stewardship, recyclability and other manufacturing attributes.  The postal service claims this initiative alone will save the equivalent 15,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere!  We seek out and are happy to support sustainably progressive companies such as USPS.

Eco Zen Boutique works with Eco Chic Hosting who offsets 100% of all their energy usage with Certified Wind Power by Bonneville Environmental Foundation.  This includes the servers used to host our site.

Eco Zen Boutique Uses eFax

We send and receive faxes electronically with services by eFax saving ink, paper and ultimately trees.

Eco Zen Boutique is Green at Home Too

Owner and eco-preneur, Tandy Stepp is a life long vegetarian and lover of nature.  She makes sure the recycling goes out to the curb every Thursday night, buys organic and post consumer waste products at the grocery store whenever possible and enjoys her short commute to the office by operating the exclusively online boutique business out of her Tempe, Arizona home.
